The Waikoloa Village Association was provided notice by the US Department of Interior, Fish & Wildlife Division that it was proposing to designate approximately 1,758 acres of WVA land as Critical Habitat for Lowland Dry Ecosystem Species.
As this designation, if allowed to pass, would limit any future development of the designated area, the Board of Directors has voted to fight the designation. The WVA has made a formal request for a Public Hearing on the matter and has retained legal counsel to assist in it to prevent the designation from taking place.
Attached are files related to the Proposed Critical Habitat designation as well as a copy of the WVA’s comments on the matter. Note that the Proposal does not only include WVA lands, but other land parcels here on the Big Island and throughout the State.
Economic and Environmental Impact statement will be issued by the Fish & Wildlife Service in the near future. We will keep everyone abreast of any updates occurring in the future as it pertains to this very important matter relating to the WVA.
